Gut Health

I Love the gut, I am truly fascinated by it! I believe the gut is the key to optimal health.Unfortunately in this day and age with the over usage of antibiotics, our lifestyle and food choices, we haven’t been very kind to it. Almost every patient can benefit from a GI-MAP gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years. Overwhelmingly, research indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing GI health with the proper tools can help practitioners get to the root cause of chronic illness. Some conditions that warrant testing are:
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • IBS/IBD
  • Digestive complaints, diarrhea or constipation
  • Brain fog
  • Skin problems, like acne and psoriasis
  • Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety
  • Diabetes and weight loss issues
  • SIBO- small intestinal bacterial overgrowth

Stress Induced Illness

Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to life experiences. Daily hassles, chronic pain, blood sugar dysregulation, work stressors, and poor relationship quality can alter the HPA axis.

When stress lasts for too long without being treated it can cause serious health problems, especially those effecting the endocrine system. The adrenal glands create hormones to help us control stress and when the adrenal function is compromised a cascade of hormonal effects can occur.

Imbalances in adrenal hormones can have a wide range of negative consequences that can adversely impact a patient’s overall quality of life. The symptoms of HPA axis dysfunction may include: fatigue, insomnia, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, depression, GI complaints, and chronic pain.

HPA axis dysfunction is associated with many conditions including:

  • hypertension
  • cardiovascular disease
  • gastrointestinal and immune dysregulation
  • diabetes and metabolic syndrome
  • depression
  • chronic fatigue or persistent pain
  • neurodegenerative disease
  • and cognitive decline

Adrenal Stress Profile testing can reveal these HPA axis imbalances and provide direction for clinical intervention with targeted therapeutic treatments, such as nutrient support and/or adaptogens, stress management, behavioral modification, and lifestyle interventions.

Nutrition

You are what you eat

While I don’t follow any particular “diet”, as everyone’s journey is different, I do focus on an anti- inflammatory, whole foods-based programs. I recommend eating seasonal, local, organic produce and purchasing the best quality food that you can find and afford.

While I promote an 80/20 approach in many situations, I also create customized programs to support weight loss, digestive distress, hormone imbalances, autoimmune disease, blood sugar management, fatigue and mental health.

  • A typical nutrition consultation may include:
  • Diet Analysis
  • Supplement Review
  • Healthy Recipes & Meal Planning

Specialty nutrition diets such as:

  • Elimination Diets
  • Leaky Gut Protocol
  • Weight Loss Programs
  • Diabetes/ Blood sugar support
